A historical marker on Ark 5 next to Pinecrest Cemetery in Saline County marks this spot and was dedicated during our state’s first centennial celebration 100 years ago! The marker says that the “Geographical Center of Arkansas is a Few Steps North of This Highway.” The marker was dedicated in 1936 as part of the state’s first centennial celebration.

Bryant, Arkansas was once a tiny town that relied on the railroad for its beginning. In 1871 during Reconstruction (1865-77), St Louis and Iron Mountain Railroad began working in Bryant making it one of many towns along this line to prosper because they had access via train which continued up until 1973 when construction finished lengthily finishing at Little Rock . Many businesses came about due not only what happened there but also how far away from other major cities you could get with ease while still being near some highways creating more growth opportunities
